The General State Archives of Achaia is a Greek public service that holds administrative and municipal records as well as legal archives linked to the prefecture of Achaia and the regional units of Peloponese and Aetolia-Acarnania. It contains nine files that are relevant to Jewish history.
No 414: Legal file, charter of the Association in Patras with the title “Jewish Community of Patras””, (“Καταστατικόν του εν Πάτραις Σωματείου υπό τον τίτλον Ισραηλιτική Κοινότης Πατρών”), 1917. The aim of the association is religious and educational, namely instruction of the Jewish and Greek language and literature, as well as the establishment of a synagogue in Patras. The file includes: 1) the Filing at the Patras First Instance Court for the establishment of the Association dated 18 May 1917, by A K Morikis, lawyer in Patras. 2) Two (2) copies of the charter. 3) A filing receipt. 4) Report of the Rapporteur. 5) Copies of the Establishment Declaration and signature by the members dated 31 March 1917. 6) A document certifying that all members are Greek subjects and over 21 years old.
No 414: Legal file with the title “Partnership Agreement for the Establishment of a Fair-traders Association of Patras "I Drasis" [“The Action”] (Συμφωνητικό Ίδρυσης Συνδέσμου Εμπορογυρολόγων Πατρών “Η Δράσις”) according to Law 281, On Unions.
The file includes 1) Statute; 2) Petition; 3) Report of the Rapporteur; 4) Rules and Regulations; 5) Two copies of the Members List.
No 72: Legal file with the title “Signing of a Charter for an Unlimited Commercial Corporation” (“Σύσταση Καταστατικού Ομορρύθμου Εμπορικής Εταιρείας”). The Act of Charter Issuing an Unlimited Company was signed by Zacharias M. Vital and Moisis Aser, deed no 14031; 5 November 1911.
No 404: Legal file with the title “Setting up of a Company Scheme for an Unlimited Commercial Corporation” (“Σύσυταση Εταιρικού Ομόρρυθμης Εμπορικής Εταιρείας”). Notarial deed for setting up a Company Scheme drawn up by Georgios E. Lechouritis, notary in Patras, between Zacharias Vital and Rafail Iochanas. Unlimited textile company, notarial deed no. 9404/8 November 1919.
No 94: Contract with the title “Notarial deed for a contract by Spyridon Dimitrakopoulos, notary in Patras, between Dimitrios Androutsopoulos, representative of the Mazarakion Community, and Moisis David Erera, Plenipotentiary of Eli Modiano and the Company "Errera Brothers", registered in Thessaloniki, deed no 208/13.7.1928” (“Συμβολαιογραφική πράξη Εργολαβικού από τον Συμβολαιογράφο Πατρών Σπ. Δημητρακόπουλο ανάμεσα στον Δημήτριο Ανδρουτσόπουλο, εκπρόσωπο της Κοιότητας Μαζαρακίου και Μωυσή Δαυίδ Ερρέρα, πληρεξούσιο του Ελή Μοδιάνο και της Εταιρείας “Αδελφοί Ερρέρα” με έδρα τη Θεσσαλονίκη, αριθμός συμβολαίου 208/13.7.1928”).
No 404: Notarial Deed for the selling of a residence and lot on Pantanassis Road, no 36, Patras by Zacharias, son of Markos Vital, for the sum of 22,500 drachmas. Notarial Deed no 10.400/15.7.1920, drawn up by Georgios E. Lechouritis, notary in the city of Patras. The building would later be used as a synagogue.
No 404: Notarial Deed for the selling of a residence and lot on Pantanassis Road, no 36, Patras, between Mandani, widow of N. Andreou, and Eleni Andreou (sellers) and M. Aser (buyer), for the sum of 23,000 drachmas. Notarial Deed no 076/28.4.1920 drawn up by Georgios E. Lechouritis, notary in the city of Patras. The building would later be used as a synagogue.
No 91: Legal file with the title “Charter of Commercial Unlimited Company” (“Καταστατικόν Ανωνύμου Εμπορικής Εταιρείας”). Notarial deed for the establishment of a Company with the title "Ifasmatemporiki Anonimos Etaireia Z.M. Vital" (Textile Limited Company Z.M. Vital) registered in Patras. The members are mostly of Jewish origin and live abroad, in Milan and Manchester. There is also one member who is Christian. Contract no. 19.147/6 May 1928.
No 387: General Audit of Results of the Commercial School of Patras in 1921, 1922, 1945, 1947 (“Αρχείο Εμπορικής Σχολής Πατρών”). This is a handwritten catalogue that serves as the index of registry for test results of students at the Commercial School of Patras. According to the document, the school was attended by students of Jewish origin from various parts of Greece, even after 1945.
Hebrew letters and Jewish symbols are used in signatures in the legal documents and deeds.
