- Archival history:
- This series was created by the Federation of Jewish communities in Yugoslavia and/or the Jewish community of Zagreb. The original documentation was mainly kept by the Federation office in Belgrade. A still unknown portion of the documents were transferred to Russian archives at the end of the Second World War and a number of documents were allegedly sent to Belgrade before the Yugoslav Wars that began in 1991.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The Federation of Jewish communities of Yugoslavia was founded in 1919 as an umbrella organisation of Jewish communities in the Kingdom of Serbia, Croatia and Slovenia. In 1929 it became the Federation of Jewish communities of Yugoslavia. Its official activities ceased from 1941 to 1944. From 1945 until 1991 it was the umbrella organisation of all Jewish communities in the territory of Yugoslavia. Due to the break-up of Yugoslavia and the subsequent establishment of new independent states it lost its role.
