- Collection Sig. 10.72-3/1 Jewish congregations Mecklenburg-Schwerin (around 1765-1938) comprises 444 files on the individual Jewish congregations (alphabetically) of the Grand Duchy, regarding matters of congregation regulations and statutes, contributions to the congregation treasury (accounting; annual accounts), the synagogues and synagogue regulations, building and property matters (permits, mortgages), donations, foundations and legacies of individuals, applications for support and poverty welfare, community meetings (minutes), memoranda, disputes and inheritance matters, staffing, craftsmen's associations, cemeteries and funerals, Chevra Kadisha, congregation lists, correspondence of individual congregations on the hiring of teachers, kosher butchers or prayer leaders and precentors (partially in Hebrew).
- Administrative/biographical history:
- In 1839 Grand Duke Paul Friedrich issued the statute "Statut für die allgemeinen kirchlichen Verhältnisse der israelitischen Untertanen im Großherzogtum Mecklenburg-Schwerin". It provided for the formation of an upper council, the occupation of the state rabbinate and the activities of the state rabbis. The State Congregations Mecklenburg und Mecklenburg-Strelitz were combined in 1934, Dr. David Alexander Winter from Lübeck was the Rabbi.
