- The personal estate of Hermann Lübbing contains extensive correspondence and collections on the history of Oldenburg, including a manuscript of Duke Peter Friedrich Ludwig: "About the Jews”.
- Archival history:
- A significant part of the estate relates to the State Association and to other organisations engaged in historical research. An additional consultation of the holdings of the Oldenburg State Association (Dep 112) is therefore advisable.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- Dr. Hermann Lübbing was born on 6 February 1901 in Oldenburg-Eversten and died on 10 April 1978 in Oldenburg. In 1946, he again took over the management of the Oldenburg Archive (now the Lower Saxony State Archives). From 1 February, 1958 he wrote and inspired numerous publications. A first survey of the archive in Oldenburg was published in 1943. From 1933 to 1951, he was chairman of the Oldenburg State Association for Ancient Studies and National History. Lübbing was also a member of the Historical Commission for Lower Saxony and Bremen from 1931 and temporarily served as its deputy chairman.
