- The collection contains: attendance of the Protestant elementary school Vechta by Jewish children; the synagogue, teachers and heads of the Jewish congregation of Vechta; reelection of the head of the Israelite congregation in Vechta at the instigation of the chief rabbi Wechsler; assessment of taxable Jews for the rabbinate treasury; overview of the number of Jews and their payment of protection money in the Duchy of Oldenburg and in the hereditary demesne of Jever; ordinances, rescripts and other general decrees and messages concerning Jews; resettlement of Jewish families; protected Jews (Schutzjuden).
- Administrative/biographical history:
- Vechta was created in the 12th century by the Counts of Calvelage-Ravensberg. In 1252, it came by purchase to the Bishop of Münster. In 1803/1818, Vechta came to Oldenburg with the bishopric (Niederstift) of Münster.
