- Archival history:
- The demesne of Jever is based on the rule of the Frisian chieftains. The House of Oldenburg inherited the demesne in 1575, which in 1667 fell to Anhalt-Zerbst and in 1793 to the House of Russia. In 1818, it was returned to Oldenburg.
