- Scope and content:
- The map collection of the Wolfenbüttel State Archive comprises approx. 40,000 maps, of which approx. 16,000 are hand-drawn copies. They cover the period from the 16th century to the present, the proportion of early cartographic material until 1800 is only about 20%. The oldest map dates to 1543. The geographical focus is on the former Duchy of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel and later Free State and administrative district of Braunschweig. Today's area of responsibility is the administrative territory of the former administrative district of Braunschweig. Of special interest are maps and plans of the synagogue in Wolfenbüttel.
