- The collection contains records of the trials at the district court of Braunschweig for crimes against humanity during the Third Reich as well as the reopening of proceedings against Jews for foreign exchange trading.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- As part of the Reich Judiciary Reform of 1879, independent unified authorities without collegial constitution were created by the court, which were called prosecutor’s office. They were to act as law enforcement and prosecution authorities in criminal proceedings, i.e, take up their duties if criminal and prosecutable acts were involved. They were also entitled to execute the sentence and, at times, supervise the prison system.
