- The collection contains records relating to municipal, customs, border and economic affairs; poor relief; insurance; taxation; monasteries and school matters; general records of the district directorate, for example: service instructions, business management, budget and registry, court matters and acts of the district municipal association. Of special interest is the notification of a list of all Jews in the district of Gandersheim to the chief rabbi and the enlargement of the synagogue in Gandersheim.

- The new state constitution (Landschaftsordnung) of 1832 led to a radical reform in the intermediate administrative division. District councils were newly established, directly subordinated to the state ministry.
