- The collection comprises the documents of the porcelain manufactory Fürstenberg beginning with its founding by duke Karl I in 1747 until its lease in 1859. It includes records relating to the establishment, operation, head office, conferences, minutes fabrication, personnel, accounting, construction and firing, water pipes, drying and kilns, porcelain painting, inventories. Of special interest are the files regarding improvement suggestions of the Irish and allegedly Hamburg Jew de Villars concerning the production of porcelain.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The Fürstenberg porcelain manufactory was founded on the order of duke Karl I, regent of the Principality of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel, in 1747. This makes it the second-oldest manufactory in Germany after the Meissen manufactory and one of the oldest manufactories in Europe.
