- This collection contains the denial of marriage between the Jew Optikus Hirsch Amsel Wallich from Sondershausen and Dorothea Auguste Juliane (Julie) Duwe, as well as applications for approval of wedding celebrations with banquet and music between Christians and Jews.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The consistory was established as part of the princely department of justice in 1569 in connection with the Reformation. Its area of responsibility was the religious court for marriage matters and disciplinary matters of clergy and teachers. Under the supervision and with cooperation of the sovereign, it was managed by deputy consistorial councillors. Relocated to Helmstedt from 1579 to 1589, the consistory, after its return to Wolfenbüttel, acquired the character of a public authority and was subordinate to the privy council until the new territorial order of 1832. From 1832 it was a public authority in questions pertaining to school matters; in all other areas it was a church authority under the supervision of the ministry of state.
