- Archival history:
- The son of a Protestant mother and a Jewish father, Dr. Jürgen Asch was racially persecuted by the Nazi regime. He was born on 2 July 1931 in Berlin-Lichterfelde as the only child of Bertha Kließ (accountant, born on 28 June 1895 in Travemünde, died in July 1990 in Hannover) and Moritz Asch (merchant, born on 6 September 1883 in Schneidemühl/Posen). The family was wealthy. His father Moritz Asch, son of Isert and Rosa Asch, moved among the upper middle-class circles of Berlin and Hamburg. As a Jew, he was arrested by the Gestapo on 9 November 1938 in the family's Berlin home and taken to the Sachsenhausen-Oranienburg concentration camp, where he died on 8 December 1938. His sister Klara Asch (born on 7 November 1881), who was under guardianship, was deported to the Theresienstadt concentration camp on 16 June 1943 and declared dead after the war by a aruling of the Wedding District Court of 15 November 1951.
