Scope and content:: The collection mainly includes civil cases (in some cases only verdicts); divorces; (trial) registers and judicial administrative matters (administrative acts, including business audits in the district and regional courts); individual proceedings and restitution cases for which the Hildesheim regional court was responsible under the German Restitution Laws of 18 September 1953, including compensation of Jewish assets.

Administrative/biographical history:: Civil cases of a certain value in dispute are tried in the regional court in the first instance, as are criminal cases in which there is no jurisdiction of the district courts (fine or up to 2 years imprisonment). Regional courts are the second instance for appealing against judgments of the district courts. Until the new regulations of the divorce law came into force in 1977, the regional court was responsible for divorces and matters resulting from divorce.
