The collection consists of three parts. The first part (Nds. 1241 Osterheide Acc. 2006/011 Nr. 1-153) contains extensive material (photos, experience reports of contemporary witnesses, etc.) on the history of the various prisoner of war camps that existed in the area of military training zone and whose history is hardly documented so far. This collection represents the historically most valuable part of the collection, as few comparable documentaries on prisoner of war camps have been preserved.
The second part (Nds. 1241 Osterheide Acc. 2006/011 Nr. 277-284, 299-319) contains mainly documents on the history of the military training area until 1950. They provide information about the beginnings of the military training area and the troops temporarily stationed there until the end of the Second World War, but also document the DP emigration camp Oerbke and the British internment camp Oerbke (No. 3 Civilian Internment Camp) housed in the area of the later unincorporated district of Osterheide.
The third part (Nds. 1241 Osterheide Acc. 2006/011 No. 154-276, 285-298) consists of the remains of the service registry of the army estates district of Bergen or the estates district/unincorporated district of Osterheide from the period of 1935 to 1993.
Of special interest to Jewish history are: collection of amusement tax, including, among others: movie theatre in the so-called Jewish Camp Hohne.
