The collection Hann. 68 contains civil trials between 1570 and 1817, before the royal court of Hannover, the Hannover department of justice, the Hessian government and the high appellate court of Kassel, as well as before the administrative district of Bischofstein in the Eichsfeld and the higher regional court of Heiligenstadt.
Of special interest within this collection are records relating to the following lawsuits: administrative district of Osterode/Harz against the magistrate in Osterode/Harz because of jurisdiction over the Jews; civic and city deputies in Göttingen against the state government in Hannover for lifting the protection of Jews; administrative district of Rotenkirchen against the magistrate in Einbeck because of the jurisdiction over the "protected Jews" ("Schutzjuden"), containing among others: the writ of protection of Jews dating from 1762.
- Archival history:
- Because this collection includes trials from a range of different courts it does not have a uniform and cohesive provenance. In some cases, the end of the trial extended beyond the specified end date (1898). The main part is made up of those trials before the department of justice with about 950 trials. Just under 370 trials were held before the royal court of Hannover. The 150 Hessian and 15 Eichsfeld trials represent only a small part of the collection.
