- Administrative/biographical history:
- The history of the State Sanatorium and Nursing Home (Landes-Heil- und Pflegeanstalt – LKH) began in 1757 with the establishment of a hospital for the sick and the creation of barracks for soldiers in 1787. In 1940, the Reich Minister ordered Jewish patients and patients of the North German region to be transferred to the Wunstorf State Sanatorium and Nursing Home. This measure was implemented in September of the same year with the relocation of 158 Jewish patients, all of whom eventually perished. In September 1941, the Wunstorf State Sanatorium and Nursing Home was abolished. In its place a provincial youth shelter was set up.
