- Administrative/biographical history:
- The creation of the Provincial Museum (renamed the State Museum in 1933) as a (semi-) state institution took place in 1887, when three separate associations ("Natural History Society of Hannover," "Historical Association for Lower Saxony" and "Association for public art collection") of the previously private "Museum of Arts and Sciences" finally transferred their assets to the provincial association of Hannover.
