- Administrative/biographical history:
- The Lower Saxony State Archives was established on 1 January 2005. It arose from the merger of the previously independent State Archives in Aurich, Bückeburg, Hannover (Main State Archives), Oldenburg, Osnabrück, Stade and Wolfenbüttel, which was carried out under the supervision of Unit 203, "State Archives”, of the Lower Saxony office of the prime minister. In 2005, as part of the administrative modernisation, Unit 203, including the head of the unit, was incorporated into the newly established state administrative unit designated as "Lower Saxony State Archives (NLA)”.
