- The collection contains documents and files from the 16th to the early 20th century, most of which relate to the owners of the family estate (still owned by the family today), but also documents the other lines of the Freytag family. From the administrative districts of Schaumburg and Lauenau, it contains documents on various trials, including some involving Jews.

- The collection was transferred to the State Archives in April 2009 by descendants of the knights' estate owners.

- In Estorf on the Weser river (administrative district of Nienburg), there were originally two knighthoods, from the 16th century, four. They belonged to the knighthood of the county of Hoya and two still exist.
