Collection Cal Br 16 comprises the military records of the Calenberg dukes for the period 1499-1715 and, as an appendix, those of elector Ernst August as bishop of Osnabrück. The material covers subjects such as war events; organisation of the military; recruitments; war chest; depot and supply matters; arsenals; artillery; contributions; billeting; garrisons; court martial; prisoners; pillaging; foreign troops marching through the area; fortress matters; war matters of Ernst August I of Braunschweig-Lüneburg as prince bishop of Osnabrück.
Of special interest are the files regarding the contract with the Jew Guntersheim for the supply of the provisions for the forces of the Reich on the Rhine; the department of justice in Wolfenbüttel and the transfer of the company of Captain Essleben (Colonel of Helversen) to Israel Kaikos.
