- Administrative/biographical history:
- The central mining authority formed the supreme body of the Clausthal-based mining administration. After 1788, the central mining authorities were merged for the Hannover and Wolfenbüttel Harz areas. Subsequently, the Clausthal central mining authority – in forestry matters, designated as mining and forestry office – shed its traditional general legal and administrative powers and developed into a specialist medium-sized authority for mining, smelting and forestry matters. As such, it was reconstituted under the name of Mining and Forestry Office of Clausthal in 1850/51.
