- Archival history:
- In the course of a research project about the Bambergers, private material was gathered by family members and friends, former neighbours, eye witnesses etc., eventually leading to the establishment of this small collection. The material was gathered in the 1990s and transferred to Bremen State Archive in 1998.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- Julius Bamberger was a businessman of Jewish origin. The Bamberger family ran one of the most successful department stores in Bremen. After 1933 the National Socialists systematically started boycotting and terrorising Jewish businesses, which forced the Bamberger family to close down their store (the building is now used as Bremen's central adult education centre) and emigrate to the United States.
