The collection contains a set of files which documents the legal status of Jews living in the duchies of Schleswig and Holstein, their rights, duties and privileges (which are relevant for the whole region). The material is arranged in files, each dealing with Jews in a specific town or region located in that region. Most files comprise material on economic issues such as businesses run by Jewish citizens as well as documents about the legal protection of Jewish citizens and their rights regarding religious practices (e.g. Jewish cemeteries) in specific towns.
The most detailed set of records is the material about the Jews in Altona: File No. 3809 comprises material about buildings and structures such as the synagogue and the Jewish cemetery; Files No. 3810 I and II and No. 3811 contain material about the local Jews of German origin, among them applications for residence and for establishing businesses, arranged case by case in chronological order. File No. 3812 particularly deals with Jews of Portuguese origin living in Altona and the surrounding area, special privileges and their legal situation.
