- Scope and content:
- The collection is divided into eleven groups, of which three subject groups in particular are important for the study of Jewish history: “Heiratswesen“ (marriage matters), “Bürger- und Heimatrecht“ (civil and local law), “Angelegenheiten der jüdischen Gemeinden“ (Jewish congregation affairs). The files on marriage law are more detailed than those of "Wedde I" (332-1 I) . Although most civil and local law files have been relocated to the artificially created inventory of "332-7 state affairs", which does not follow the traditional provenance, there are still records of Jewish residents in this collection, such as a list of members of the Portuguese Jewish Congregation.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- After the incorporation of Hamburg into the French Empire, the Wedde was temporarily abolished. After the withdrawal of the French troops it was re-established but lost its role as an order police when in 1814 a police department was established. The remaining tasks were those of a market, moral and foreigner police. In 1866, the Wedde, which had previously supervised nexus cases and marriage affairs, was replaced by the Civil Registry.
