- About 250 cases concerning Jews are part of this record group, mainly documents on procedural issues and expert reports on the Interpretation of Law. The documented civil trials originate mostly in the field of commercial law, also some inheritance disputes. There are also a few criminal case files.
- Archival history:
- The files of the Hamburg lower courts were not preserved, but the documentation of the Oberappellationsgerichte can form a substitute to some extent. In 1952, the trial files were divided between the participating cities Hamburg, Frankfurt and Bremen, after Lübeck already had received the respective administrative files in 1936.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The Oberappellationsgericht was founded in 1820 as "Oberappellationsgericht der Freien Städte Deutschlands" in Lübeck as a joint supreme court of Hamburg, Lübeck, Frankfurt and Bremen. The court was the next instance after the high court. After the annexation of Frankfurt by Prussia, the court remained for the three Hanseatic cities. The court was generally a court of third instance for the participating cities.
