- The files on the Hamburg congregation deal with the Jews in the Hamburg city area before the dissolution of the triple congregation of Altona, Hamburg, Wandsbek in 1812. The congregation existed in close connection with the Jewish congregations of Wandsbek and Altona, as they were the main places of residence of Jews in the Hamburg area. The council of the city of Hamburg enacted the Regulation of 1710, according to which congregation membership was obligatory for all Jews in Hamburg.
