- Archival history:
- The beginnings of a first archive date back to the 15th century. The oldest registry directory was created between 1567 and 1577. In the last third of the 19th century, the modern history of the university archives began with the construction, organisation and indexing of the collections and their special accommodation. In 1878 the council issued an archive regulation. During World War II, valuable archival holdings were relocated and between 1945 and 1949 they were returned. The holdings of the rectorate and the faculty archives were merged to form the university archive. From the 1960s to the 1980s a large amount of new material was transferred to the archive. The university archive is responsible for all areas of the university. In 1990-91 the archives of the former maritime school Warnemünde/Wustrow, the Pädagogische Hochschule Güstrow and the teacher training institute Rostock Lichtenhagen were added to the archive.
