- Administrative/biographical history:
- Under the Inheritance Tax Law of 1873, the Administration of Inheritance Tax in Prussia, under the direction of the Minister of Finance, was administered by the Provincial Tax Directorates through special stamp and inheritance tax offices. These were given periodical excerpts from the lists of deaths by pastors and mayors and court-certified copies of the testamentary decrees and death declarations opened there. In the Province of Hannover, there were two of these offices with their seat in Hannover. Stamp and inheritance tax office I was responsible for the administrative districts of Hannover and Osnabrück as well as for parts of the administrative district of Hildesheim. In 1908, the two administrative districts were merged.
