- Administrative/biographical history:
- The administrative districts were at the same time the lower state administrative authority (collections Rep 450) and the local government with limited self-government (collections Rep 451). By law of 6 May 1884, the district administrative order issued for the Prussian eastern provinces on 13 December 1872, with some changes, was also introduced for the Province of Hannover effective 1 April 1885 (Sec. 119). "Instead of the previous districts and areas of jurisdiction, the districts were instituted as administrative areas." The Aschendorf district included the administrative district of Aschendorf and the city of Papenburg.
