- Administrative/biographical history:
- The Duchy of Arenberg Mediatamt (mediatised administrative district) of Meppen, established in 1828, included the bailiwicks of Meppen and Haren. In 1867, the head of the administration also became head of the district of Meppen, newly established at the time, who was in charge of financial and military affairs, which extended to the entire territory of the Duchy of Arenberg.
