- Administrative/biographical history:
- The administrative district of Bersenbrück was formed in 1817 from parts of the old Osnabrück administrative districts of Fürstenau and Vörden. After the end of French rule, the provisional government commission set up by the Electorate of Hannover for the principality of Osnabrück in 1814 reintroduced the administrative district structure. The regulation on the tasks of the subordinate administrative authorities were regulated by the bailiwick of Osnabrück by the order of 18 April 1823. Accordingly, the administrative districts were responsible for the administration in governance, police, domanial, cameral and consistorial matters and the administration of justice in the lower instance. In 1852, the administration of justice was transferred to the newly created district courts. The administrative district of Bersenbrück is a new formation of the Hanoverian administration. It was established on 1 April 1817 from parts of the old Osnabrück administrative districts of Fürstenau (bailiwicks of Alfhausen, Ankum, Badbergen, Menslage) and Vörden (bailiwick of Gehrde with Absplissen [separate sub-settlements] of the parish of Neuenkirchen/Oldenburg). On 1 October 1852 the bailiwicks of Badbergen and Menslage were assigned to the newly formed administrative district of Quakenbrück. However, this regulation was reversed again on 1 April 1859. After the Prussian incorporation of the state in 1867, the administrative district of Bersenbrück was unified with the administrative districts of Fürstenau and Vörden and the city of Quakenbrück to the form the district of Bersenbrück. With the district administrative ordinance of 1 April 1885, the administrative district of Bersenbrück was dissolved and merged into the district Bersenbrück.
