- Archival history:
- The archive of the city has been deposited in the State Archives since 1978-79. It also includes the archives of the originally independent surrounding communities. The older urban record was largely destroyed by the fires of 1798 and 1849. The files of the municipalities of Hamm and Lehrte are missing. By contrast, the records of the communities Dörgen and Kolsterholte date back as early as the 18th century.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The municipal administration of Haselünne was carried out by the mayor, three councillors and a wage master under the mayor. The election was governed by the Münster Decree of 22 January 1700 and from 1731 on by a new electoral regulation, initiated by Bishop Clemens August. The magistrate, consisting of mayors and councillors, exercised jurisdiction over minor offences. At the time of the French occupation, the municipal administration was made up of a mayor and a municipal councillor. This form of administration existed until 1818. Thereafter, the magistrate was re-established with its previous rights. From 1826 onward, Haselünne belonged to the civil authority of Meppen and thus also to the Duchy of Arenberg-Meppen. Within that, the king was entitled to sovereignty and general oversight. The Duke exercised some governmental rights under the supervision of the higher authorities. In 1827, one of four ducal Arenberg state administrative districts was set up in Haselünne, and in 1852, as a result of the separation of judiciary and administration, the mediatised princely district court was founded. The mediatised princely rights of the Duke of Arenberg-Meppen remained intact until 1875. Thereafter, the administrative districts established in accordance with the general rules on the official constitution in the Province of Hannover were introduced. The newer collection, accumulated after the Second World War, consists mainly of the files of the communities which have belonged to the municipality of Haselünne since 1974: Andrup, Bückelte, Flechum, Huden, Hülsen, Lage, Lohe, Lotten and Westerloh.
