- Archival history:
- The Imperial Chamber Court (Reichskammergericht) was established in 1495 as the supreme imperial court and was responsible for lawsuits between persons who were answerable directly to the Reich (Reichsunmittelbare) or for these and for appointments of German high courts, unless there was a higher regional court, as in Kurland. Except for several interruptions, it had its seat in Speyer from 1527 and from 1689 in Wetzlar. It ceased to exist in 1806 with the abdication of the Holy Roman Empire by Emperor Franz II. The trial records were started in 1808 because files of pending cases were requested by the interested parties.
