- The senate of justice existed within the state government and was the highest court in Schaumburg-Lippe. For matters of the department of justice it was 2nd and 3rd instance (as a review and appeal authority). In addition, the Senate had the task of serving as an appeals office for the (Lutheran) Consistory and represented the first instance for Reformed Church members and Catholics. The Senate was abolished effective 1 October 1879.
