- Archival history:
- While most of the older files are in the old government registry (L 2), a new registry was started in 1765, but a number of precedents were adopted: the present collection is L 20. However, this distribution of powers was not consistently respected in the newer government registry (L 3). After major file losses in the 19th century, the department of was dissolved in 1879; its files were passed to the successor authorities, especially the district court in Bückeburg. The main part of the collection comes from a transfer by the district court in 1930.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The department of justice was originally the central administrative authority of the state, which was responsible for the judicial directorate and the state administration. In connection with the establishment of the Intergovernmental Conference by Count Wilhelm, its duties were limited in 1765 to the administration of justice.
