- Scope and content:
- This collection constitutes the oldest file transfer to the dominion of the Counts of Holstein-Schaumburg, more frequently from about 1500 until the division of the county in 1647. It includes various files concerning Jews such as privileges for Schutzjuden [protected Jews]; investigations into various crimes; claims for compensation and promissory notes; confiscation of funds; protests against the establishment of Jews, communication between Jews and cities, contracts, administration files, disputes between Jews and non-Jews.
- Archival history:
- The joint archive housed in Bückeburg remained the joint property of the Counts of Schaumburg-Lippe and the Landgrave of Hesse-Kassel. Until the 19th century, the administration was led by a Schaumburg-Lippe and a Hessian archivist. After considerable damage and losses due to repeated removals, humidity and mildew, the archive was divided in 1873 between Schaumburg-Lippe and Prussia as the legal successor of Hesse, whereby the archival records relating to the former Hessian territories were transferred to the Prussian State Archives in Marburg, while the material related to Schaumburg-Lippe subjects remained in Bückeburg. After the Second World War, the collection was reunited in the State Archives of Hannover and after the establishment of the Lower Saxony State Archives in Bückeburg (1961) it was transferred there.
