Its tasks included the implementation of health policy, the so-called hereditary and race care, including marriage counselling, school health care, maternal counselling, participation in measures for the promotion of physical exercises, official and medical practice. Predecessors were the district doctors or country doctors. The health authorities were communalised in 1978 as part of the administrative reform.
