- Administrative/biographical history:
- A Jewish community existed in Hornburg since the middle of the 17th century. Services were initially held on private premises, as the construction of a synagogue building and the holding of public worship services had been banned (around 1655); but the latter ban was soon lifted, so that the new synagogue was built in 1766. The almost 300-year-long history of the Jewish community of Hornburg ended with the death of the Jewish woman Amalie Schwabe in 1923.
