- Scope and content:
- This collection comprises the records of the legal department of the city, which covers all legal matters in the departments of the city administration, including Jewish affairs as well as the denazification after the Second World War. This includes responding to inquiries, issuing expert opinions and dealing with legal and administrative matters (including the elimination of Jewish forced first names (1948).
- Administrative/biographical history:
- Before 1930, the handling of all legal matters was left to the individual departments. The more extensive the legislation became, the more obvious was the lack of expertise in clarifying legal matters in the services. Therefore, in 1929, the city secretariat was initially designated as a department for handling all legal issues; with the reorganisation of the administration in 1930, a legal office was established. It was renamed legal department after the Second World War.
