- The collection holds the records of the School Supervisor of Pest-Pilis-Solt-Kiskun County, the state official responsible for the control and supervision of public education in Pest-Pilis-Solt-Kiskun County. Presidential records (VI. 502.a.) mostly concern personnel and disciplinary matters of state and religious schools. General records (VI. 502.b.) are fragmented and are of little relevance. VI. 502.c. holds qualification cards of primary school teachers, from the years 1929-1944. VI. 502.d. is a key provenance group within the collection, which holds register books (anyakönyvek) of primary schools, class registers and register books on exams from 1902-1935. Register books contain the personal data of students, including address, religion and the names and occupations of their parents, the classes taught, names of instructors/teachers, and the grades. (182 booklets, 27 vols., 1 fasc., 3 boxes, 2.82 linear metres).
- Archival history:
- Based on the regulations of Decree 1022-38/1951 of the Minister of Education (modified by Decree 114-0820/1952), school records that were classified of historical value were taken to the archives in the 1950s and the early 1960s. After the dissolution of the supervisor’s offices in 1950, the material was handed over to the Pest County Archives. The collection reached its present form at the end of the 1980s.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- Established by Act XXVIII of 1876, school supervisors were state officials appointed by the Minister of Culture and Education to organise and control primary education in a particular county or city of municipal rights. Each county or city normally had one school supervisor. Supervisors were obliged to implement the decisions of the ministry, supervise educational activities and submit regular reports to the ministry about the results and state of all the institutes of primary education, including religious and state schools.
