- The collection holds the copies of Israelite registers of births, marriages and deaths from all localities of Pest-Pilis-Solt County and Pest-Pilis-Solt-Kiskun County. Registers of births, marriages and deaths are key documents of genealogical research, but also have a significant value for historical research, providing information on the origins, occupational structure, family relations and various other sociological characteristics of the local Jewish communities.
- Archival history:
- According to Act XXIII of 1827, all religious denominations were required to prepare copies of the registers of births, marriages and deaths and place one copy in the archives of the given county in case the originals stored in the parish or rabbinate would be damaged or destroyed. The collection of registers of births and marriages and deaths of Jewish communities in Pest-Pilis-Solt and Pest-Pilis-Solt-Kiskun Counties has been kept in the county archives. The fonds reached its present form in the 1970s.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- Systematic and standardized registration of births and marriages and deaths of the Jewish communities in Hungary began in November 1863, upon the order of the Habsburg authorities (Royal Chancellery). The registry districts were formed by the decree of the Hungarian Royal Ministry of Religion and Education in 1885.
