- Scope and content:
- This collection holds the copies of the statutes of social associations that existed in Pest-Pilis-Solt-Kiskun County between the 1880s and 1945. Besides, it holds all the copies of documents pertaining to any fundamental changes in the life of the particular association, for example the change of name, modification of the statutes and the liquidation of the association. The collection has special value for historical research, as in several cases these kinds of files are the only remnants of the records of certain social organisations. The collection includes the statutes of Jewish religious communities, religious organisations and societies, and cultural organisations. The collection also include records of the social organisations which had quite a few Jewish members, such as tradesmen’s and merchants’ societies, as well as the records of various antisemitic and extreme right wing social organisations, such as Baross Alliance, MOVE (Hungarian National Defence Forces Association), Turul Alliance, Society of Awakening Hungarians, and many others.
- Archival history:
- The collection was created by the Subprefect’s Office, the administrative body to supervise social organisations in 1888. Before that, statutes of social organisations were placed in the general records of the Subprefect’s Office. The collection was handed over to the Debrecen State Archives in 1950. The present fonds was created in the late 1970s.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- According to Decrees of the Ministry of the Interior nos. 1394/1873 and 1508/1875 the statutes had to be approved by the ministry of the Interior as supervisory authority. All social organisations were required to submit one copy of their statutes to the archives of the Subprefect’s Office from 1874 onwards, where later the records were handled in a separate collection.
