- This collection holds the records of the Pest-Pilis-Solt County Central Civil Court, including the records of civil lawsuits and cases settled outside court from the entire territory of Pest-Pilis-Solt County. Records of civil lawsuits (IV. 264. a.) contain cases of several private agreements between Jews and non-Jews concerning money lending and other financial transactions, cases of guardianship and inheritance, divorce and many other private law issues. The material also includes files of bankruptcy and liquidation (csődperek), but only cases from the Pest, Vác and Pilis districts. (42 boxes, 2 vols., 6.88 linear metres) Land Register Records (Telekkönyvi iratok IV. 264. b.) comprise record of sale and mortgage of real estate, including urban and landed property. From 1862-63 onwards, the Pest-Pilis-Solt County Central Civil Court’s jurisdiction in land register matters was only extended to the Pest, Vác and Pilis districts. (140 boxes, 46 vols., 22.85 linear metres) Cases of Jewish citizens can be located by the alphabetical indexes of names and subject attached to the material. The material is of fragmented nature, that is, many case files are missing.
- Archival history:
- After 1871, the records of the Pest-Pilis-Solt County Central Civil Court were taken over by its successor, the Pest District Royal Law Court. Since then, the collection has been rearranged and selected several times. The record group reached its present form in 1973. An additional three boxes of the Land Register Records were found in 2006 and placed in the Nagykőrös branch archives.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- Pest-Pilis-Solt County Central Civil Court was established in 1861 to take over the role and authority of the Pest National Law Court as the main jurisdictional body in the municipalities of Pest-Pilis-Solt County. Its sphere of authority was extended to the entire territory of the county, with the exception of bankruptcy and liquidation and land registry cases, in which the Pest-Pilis-Solt County Central Civil Court had no legal authority except in the Pest, Vác and Pilis districts. The Pest-Pilis-Solt County Central Civil Court was dissolved in 1871 and replaced by the Pest District Royal Law Court.
