- The Jewish Religious Community in Stara Kanjiža was formed during the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy and was active during the entire period of the existence of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. The preserved records contain information on the Jewish community in Kanjiža. They comprise: minutes of the sessions of the community; minutes of the Religious School Council; registries of births, marriages and deaths which provided detailed information on the Jews living in Stara Kanjiža; cadastre of the Jewish graveyard; cashier book of the Church Council and Chevre Kadise; tax books; debtors evidence book.

- The incomplete documentation was transferred from the Primary School in Kanjiža in 1985.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The community at first operated under the name “Ókanizsai Izraelita Hitközség”, which dated back to 1843. Since 1922 it was known as the Jewish Religious Community in Stara Kanjiža.
