- Archival history:
- The collection was created by purchases and gifts.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The collection deals with the events in Belgrade from the time when Yugoslavia signed the Trilateral Pact with Germany in order to avoid the war, the coup d'etat and demonstrations. The minor Peter II Karađovrđević was proclaimed king and the government of General Simić was formed. Nevertheless, Belgrade was attacked without a declaration of war, German troops entered the country, the army capitulated, and the struggle for survival under occupation began. Banjica and Sajmište camps were established on the territory of Belgrade, and a mass execution was carried out at the military shooting range in Jajinci. During the war, in 1944, Belgrade was bombed several times by Anglo-American forces. After the liberation in 1944, Belgrade became the leading centre of military-political activities. The monarchy was abolished and a republic was proclaimed; city authorities were elected. The urban development of Belgrade continued in the following period. Soon after the President Tito's death, SFRY disintegrated dramatically. At the end of the 20th century, Belgrade experienced another long-lasting bombing.
