The records of the Šabac Gymnasium include data related to the Šabac Jews. The most important were the main class attendance and grade books which provided data on the students (name, surname, father's name, father's occupation, address, religion) and the accomplishments they achieved. In addition, the notes column contained data on immigration or emigration, as well as the general characteristics of students. Thus, the books recorded data regarding the students and their schooling: Avram Baruh, born 1911, son of Zdravko Baruh; Haim Bararon, born 1908, son of Avram and Netika Bararon; Sarina Farhi, born 15 December 1907 in Belgrade, step father Rafailo Papo; Jakov Bararon, born 26 September 1906 in Šabac, son of Avram Bararon; Moric Avramović, born 24 June 1906 in Šabac, son of Nahman Avramović; Gidalja Gidić, born 21 September 1921, son of Naum and mother Fasima; Samujlo Abinun, son of Sofija and Jozef Abinun, the clerk; Ašer Avramović from Šabac, son of Nahman Avramović; Amada Adižes, from Pirot, daughter of Simka Nisim Adižes, the rabbi; Rafailo Talvija, born 28 February 1920 in Sofia in Bulgaria, son of Ilija and Rebeka Talvi who moved to Belgrade in February 1934; Erna Avramović, born 1 July 1916 in Brčko, daughter of Naham and Nahmana Avramović; David Ruso, born in Belgrade, son of Dr Hajim and Žaneta Ruso; Alfred Abinun, son of Josif and Sofija Abinun, etc.
Data on Jews and the Jewish religious community in Šabac can also be found in the minutes of the sessions of the school boards, as well as the correspondence of the Jewish religious community and the Šabac Gymnasium.
- Archival history:
- The records were transferred on several occasions in 1955, 1956, 1971, 1975 and 1994.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The Šabac Gymnasium was founded in 1837 and was one of the oldest schools in Serbia. In the first school year, 15 students were enrolled. The location of the Gymnasium changed several times, likewise its name (Šabačka polugimnazija, Gimnazija gospodara Jevrema Obrenovića, Srpska kraljevska gimnazija, Podrinska gimnazija, Gimnazija Vera Blagojević). The school, still active now, was attended by many students who later became well-known writers, scientists, politicians and artists, such as the writers Oskar Davičo and Stanislav Vinaver, and Mileva Marić Anštajn, mathematician and the first wife of Albert Einstein.
