- Archival history:
- The documents were taken over from the Primary School “Nikola Tesla” from Zrenjanin in 1973.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The Elementary School Veliki Bečkerek No. 2 was established in 1912. Before then, the city had three state schools: the Central Primary School, the Primary School “Etveševa Ulica” and the State Primary School in Mađarska Street. Due to the increased number of students, two more buildings were erected for primary schools: at Kralja Tomislava Street (Makedonska street) No. 11, as well as at Pašićeva Street No. 5 (Opovačka street). By the end of the First World War, the city had four state primary schools, one of which was an auxiliary (Jewish). In these schools, classes were conducted in Hungarian, except in two Serbian and three German classes. In 1921, the Ministry of Education of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes issued an order to close private schools in places where there were public schools. As a result there was a reorganisation of primary schools in the city and redistribution of students in the existing public schools.
