- Administrative/biographical history:
- The People's Liberation Committee in Sremska Mitrovica was founded during World War II. It was organised in the Assembly and the Executive Committee. The Committee executed the decisions made by the higher authorities and those of the Committee itself. The territory of Vojvodina was divided into districts, although Sremska Mitrovica was singled-out as a City, and the City People's Committee was equal with the District Committees. It was renamed in 1949 as the People's Committee of the City, in line with the General Law on the People's Committees, and again in 1955 as People's Committee of the Municipality of Sremska Mitrovica. In 1963 it became the Assembly of the Municipality of Sremska Mitrovica. Since its foundation in 1955 the Assembly of the Municipality covered the territory of Sremska Mitrovica and Laćarak and Šašinci.
