The records of the Association of Craftsmen provides data on Jewish craftsmen, although their number was not large. According to the existing data, the Jewish craftsmen in Mitrovica were engaged in tailoring, goldsmithing, carpentry, shoemaking, masonry, carpentry and painting.
The minutes from the board sessions of the Association occasionally mention Jewish names (Klajn, Vajs, Kraus); a detailed reading would likely provide additional data (archival units nos. 3 and 4). In the Register of Craftsmen for the year 1924, Bernet Pesing was entered as a carpenter (he was previously the owner of a furniture factory), likewise the names of apprentices and workers in companies owned by Jews. The Register of Shops provided data on shop owners and their specialty in craftsmanship, the status of the shop (whether active or inactive). The Register of Crafts Students provided data on students, including Jews, such as name, surname and date of birth, name of the profession or craft being learned, apprenticeship contract, the shop owner who provided their practical experience (archival unit no. 21). The Register of Business Licenses, 1934-1938, also includes names of Jewish craftsmen and their specialties (archival units nos. 35 and 50). In the Register of Registration and Deregistration of Apprentices, kept for the District of Mitrovica, the following names were entered: master assistants: Jakob Vajs, locksmith, practiced at the workshop of Johan Vajs; Martin Kraus, Josip Kraus, masons; likewise the personal details of assistants and their employers (archival unit no. 46).
- Archival history:
- The documents were transferred to the Archives on 14 September 1963 from the District Chamber of Commerce in Sremska Mitrovica.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The Association of Craftsmen in Sremska Mitrovica was founded on 15 March 1925 under the name of Association of Craftsmen from the City of Mitrovica and the District of Mitrovica. The initiative for the establishment of the craft association was launched at the session held on 24 January 1926, and the Rules were adopted on 14 November 1926. Thus, two associations were founded, one for the City of Mitrovica, the other for the District of Mitrovica, which merged into one association on 13 July 1930. The Association protected the interests of its members, monitored their mutual relations, positions and statuses of various crafts, shop owners and craft students, determined responses to the official decisions of the authorities, the internal organisation, organised regular elections and collected membership fees. It provided financial assistance to its members if needed. The Association worked until 1950, when the District Chamber of Crafts of Sremska Mitrovica was founded.
