- The collection contains various records relating to Jewish history, in particular cases cases related to property and inheritance. Such cases also included death certificates and statements given to a public notary and the accompanying legal documents. The series of death certificates includes those of Jewish members of the community (Morgenstern and others). A large number of documents related to probate proceedings were verified by the notary public Dr Dragutin Grčić. The land records also provide data related to Jews in the Šid area.
- Archival history:
- The documents were transferred to the Archives in 1961 from the attic of the Gallery “Sava Šumanović” in Šid. Due to the poor storage of the documents, humidity and dust, half of the documents deteriorated.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The Law on the Organisation of Political Administration in the Kingdom of Croatia and Slavonia was adopted on 15 November 1874 and the Law on the structure of courts on 21 November 1874 enabled the courts to operate independently, not within the district administration. The Royal District Court in Šid began its work on 31 May 1875, based on the decree issued by the Department of Justice of the Croatian-Slavonian-Dalmatian Government, dated 18 May 1875. The area of the municipalities of Tovarnik, Berkasovo, Šid, Erdevik, Kukujevci and 13 other settlements came under the jurisdiction of that Court. Until 1886, it came under the jurisdiction of the Court Seat in Vukovar, and from 1 January 1887 under the Judicial Seat in Mitrovica. In addition to its jurisdiction in the area of criminal and civil cases, the Court also kept land cadastres, operated as the first instance court and resolved appeals against decisions of mediation courts. The Royal District Court in Šid ceased to exist in 1918.
